Well, that didn't take long for the 4th HIO Club to be taken for $605.

Gene Grefrath aimed his 5 iron at the 188 yard par three 14th hole today and, low and behold, it came to rest at the bottom of the cup for an ace!

Congrats Gene.

The new HIO Club starts on Thursday so bring an extra $5 bill to enter for your chance to capture big money and big glo
ry.

I want to remind you of the Eagle Crest Challenge on Monday May 14th. We will be putting this event together early this week. Please sign up online as you do on Thursday. This sign up method will support our process.

Thanks, Tony D.

Our hardworking Tournament Chair, Joe Wydra, was wondering how he was going to pay for his upcoming transatlantic cruise, Well, he sure put a great down payment on Tuesday when he aced the 17th hole at Highland Falls. It was Joe's 4th hole in the home and home tournament with Anthem. His 26 degree hybrid flew 137 yards and landed in the hole. He will receive the 3rd Phil Sherman's HIO Club's $735 to cover all those midnight buffets on board his cruise.

The new 4th Phil Sherman's HIO Club starts on Thursday. You can join by paying your $5 then.

Men’s 18 Holers Golf Club Local Rules
Updated 4/5/12

Men’s 18 Holers Golf Club Local Rules

This is intended to present specific local rules for the Sun City golf courses for the Men’s 18 Holers Golf Club. Included are several items which are not new or different than the USGA rules we should normally play by, but are meant to be clarifications for our players.

Specific local rules for Sun City & 18 Holers Men’s Club:
• When in a sand trap you may without penalty remove rocks, but only rocks, not pine cones, twigs, dead birds, etc.

• A free drop is allowed from decorative rocks other than crushed granite. If the ball is on the crushed granite and you are standing on the decorative rocks you do get a free drop. The drop is to the nearest point of relief no nearer the hole.

• When “lift, clean & place” is declared by the tournament chairman for the current day’s event the ball may be moved up to one club length, not nearer the hole, but not into a better position, i.e. cannot move from the rough to the fairway.

• HF #16 – a provisional ball may be played when it is thought that your ball might be in the big rocks. This is to save time to go below, look to no avail, and then have to return to the top of the fairway to drop for a lost ball.

• HF #5 & #18 – The coot fence is completely in the hazard on both of these holes. If your ball is “outside the hazard” and the fence interferes with your swing, you are allowed a free drop within 2 club lengths no nearer the hole. If the ball is “in the hazard,” you must play it as it lies or with a one stroke penalty drop the ball within two club lengths from where it crossed the hazard line no nearer the hole.

• Out-of-bounds as determined by white stakes. A ball at rest beyond the line of white stakes is out-of-bounds; however, if the ball is past the last stake and a perpendicular line from the line of stakes and that last stake, it is in bounds and playable.

• HF#10 – Free relief from the concrete wall in the Bunker. Stance plus one club length no nearer hole IF Possible. If the ball is above the sand trap (side hill) you must play it as it lies or take an unplayable lie with a one stroke penalty. (You would use the normal drop for an unplayable lie, 2 club lengths from your unplayable lie, go back in line with the pin as far as you like or go back to where you hit the last shot. A 2 club length drop could result in dropping in the trap if that would be no nearer the hole.)

Some clarifications of USGA rules:
• A free drop is allowed from man made structures. This means that on the left side of HF #12 the maintenance covers within the grass plantings allow a free drop. However, normal rules apply if your ball is in the grass or crushed granite, play as it lies or take a drop for an unplayable lie, one stroke penalty.

• No free drop from the 150 yard bushes or any other vegetation.

• There is no free relief from the pilings surrounding some holes (like PV #18).

• No free drop from a sprinkler head by the green unless it affects your stance or if the ball rests on the sprinkler head. If your intended stroke could cause your ball to roll over the sprinkler head no relief is allowed.

• When measuring for a drop, do so within 2 club lengths no nearer the hole. You can use any club including a partner’s or opponent’s. However, any additional drops required for that incident must be done with the same club.

• When dropping 2 club lengths from a hazard it is feasible that the drop could be on the green. Example, HF #18 it is possible that 2 club lengths, no nearer the hole, could be on the green.

• A “provisional” ball must be played “before going forward to search” for your original ball.

• If your ball is in a hole in a sand trap you must play it or take an unplayable lie with penalty, unless the hole was created by the maintenance personnel and you saw them do it.

• Putt ‘em ALL in the hole!!!

If a rule is ever in question, play a second ball from each position and ask for the correct ruling later.
