Men’s 18 Holers Golf Club Local Rules
&
New Member Information
Updated 5/18/11

This is intended to present specific local rules for the Sun City golf courses for the Men’s 18 Holers Golf Club. Included are several items which are not new or different than the USGA rules we should normally play by, but are meant to be clarifications for our players.

Specific local rules for Sun City & 18 Holers Men’s Club:

When in a sand trap you may without penalty remove rocks, but only rocks, not pine cones, twigs, dead birds, etc.
A free drop is allowed from decorative rocks other than crushed granite. If the ball in on the crushed granite and you are standing on the decorative rocks you do get a free drop. The drop is to the nearest point of relief no nearer the hole.
When “lift, clean & place” is declared by the tournament chairman for the current day’s event the ball may be moved up to one club length, not nearer the hole, but not into a better position, i.e. cannot move from the rough to the fairway.
HF #16 – a provisional ball may be played when it is thought that your ball might be in the big rocks. This is to save time to go below, look to no avail, and then have to return to the top of the fairway to drop for a lost ball.

HF #18 – If your ball is stopped from going into the water by the coot fence, which is “not in the hazard”, the ball may be dropped 2 club lengths, no nearer the hole, without penalty.

HF #5 – If the coot fence, which is “in the hazard”, interferes with your swing, TOO BAD, take the normal penalty drop outside the hazard with one stroke penalty.

Out-of-bounds as determined by white stakes. A ball at rest beyond the line of white stakes is out-of-bounds; however, if the ball is past the last stake and a perpendicular line from the line of stakes and that last stake, it is in bounds and playable.

HF#10 – Free relief from the concrete wall in the Bunker. Stance plus one club length no nearer hole IF Possible.
Some clarifications of USGA rules:

A free drop is allowed from man made structures. This means that on the left side of HF #12 the maintenance covers within the grass plantings allow a free drop. However, normal rules apply if your ball is in the grass or crushed granite, play as it lies or take a drop for an unplayable lie, one stroke penalty.

No free drop from the 150 yard bushes or any other vegetation.

There is no free relief from the pilings surrounding some holes (like PV #18).

No free drop from a sprinkler head by the green unless it affects your stance or if the ball rests on the sprinkler head. If your intended stroke could cause your ball to roll over the sprinkler head no relief is allowed.

When measuring for a drop, do so within 2 club lengths no nearer the hole. You can use any club including a partner’s or opponent’s. However, any additional drops required for that incident must be done with the same club.

When dropping 2 club lengths from a hazard it is feasible that the drop could be on the green. Example, HF #18 it is possible that 2 club lengths, no nearer the hole, could be on the green.

A “provisional” ball must be played “before going forward to search” for your original ball.

If your ball is in a hole in a sand trap you must play it or take an unplayable lie with penalty, unless the hole was created by the maintenance personnel and you saw them do it.

Putt ‘em ALL in the hole!!!

If a rule is ever in question, play a second ball from each position and ask for the correct ruling later.

Sun City Summerlin
Men's Golf Club, 18 Holers New Member Information

If you have a current USGA handicap, you must supply your USGA Card that contains your "USGA HCP INDEX" to the Men's Club Handicap Committee. A letter from your previous club will suffice in lieu of a USGA Card. If you do not have a current USGA verification, you must establish a handicap to participate in weekly Men's Club tournaments.

Ten 18-hole scorecards from any courses must be turned in to the Tournament Chairman to establish a temporary handicap. Contact the Tournament Chairman for more information. Shortly after your application is processed for membership, your Sun City Association number will be activated as your local number. This 8 digit number is to be used to record your golf scores on the computer located inside the Palm Valley Pro Shop or you can use the link on our web site (www.18holers.com). ALL SCORES ARE TO BE POSTED (Your Men’s Club tournament scores are recorded by the Tournament Chairman).

Men's Club tournaments are played every Thursday. You must have a handicap to participate. You may sign up for tournaments as soon as they are posted, preferably on-line at www.18holers.com or at Palm Valley. The signup sheets are located in the Palm Valley hallway between the Pro Shop and the Restaurant. A $10 prize fee will be required on the day of the tournament; either cash or check made out to S.C.S.M.G.C., and paid at the counter when you pay your greens fee. (The $10 prize fee cannot be charged).

If you sign up as an individual we will pair you up with other outstanding golfers. Tournament sign-up sheets show the Time/Date/Course and the cost of the tournament for that week. Schedules are also posted on our web site at www.18holers.com.

Players shall check-in with the Tournament Committee no later than 20 minutes prior to starting time.
